Almost immediately after purchasing a cell phone, people often ask how they can download or buy ringtones for their new phone. Why do people want different ringtones? Most people buy ring tones for their cell phones because they either do not like the cell phone ring tones that come pre-programmed on the cell phone or they like to have the diversity of a variety of ring tones on their phone and they can change the ring tones based upon their respective moods or based upon the individual caller that is calling.

Before downloading a ring tone, people should investigate several things about ring tones. These few issues can make a big difference on which ring tone - if any - to purchase and download on their cell phone.

Take the time to investigate and learn about ringtones. There are many solutions out there.

Basically a ring tone is a small computer program that is downloaded into your cell phone. Often, this program is stored in your cell phone’s memory chip. Ring tones work when someone calls your phone and your cell phone’s microprocessor then guides the phone system on what to do - or which ring tone to initiate that alerts you as to an incoming phone call.

The final thing to do is to determine whether or not the ring tones are compatible with your cell phone and cell phone service. This can be very tricky and often websites will not inform the consumer if the cell phone ringtone is incompatible with your cell phone. Usually you can find this information on a link at the website or in the fine print on the website. If you cannot find this information on the website, then I would recommend contacting the company on their respective site - usually the contact us link.
