Making a web conference call is nothing new. Even so, it hasnt exactly overthrown traditional call conferencing from its pedestal. Some predict though, that it will only be a matter of time before it takes the center stage. After all, there are a couple of good reasons to prefer internet conferencing.

- Web based conferences are cheap to set up. Some service providers even do not charge for it if you use it within certain limits. Even paid services however are so much cheaper than traditional telephone audio conferences. Pure web conferencing that relies on VoIP technology is cheap because it does not make use of the older but more expensive circuit switching technology.

- Internet calls are very easy to start. You may have to simply download a software or sign up for a service. All service providers typically provide instructions on what to do after an initial sign up. For free services, using them can be as easy as adding contacts and clicking call to make a connection.

- Among other reasons, add the fact this is a very convenient mode of communication. No special set-ups are required. All you need is a computer, internet connection, microphone and speakers. Service providers may have additional requirements if they have special add on features that you would like to use.

- Regardless of where you are located at the moment, you can make a web conference call provided you have a satellite internet connection. This is an indispensable advantage for businessmen who travel.

- Internet conferencing can incorporate very advanced features. You dont need to stay stuck on plain audio communications. Aside from basic audio calls, the web can also make video conferencing possible. The best services however can go one step higher. They can allow information swapping and sharing online which is a clear advantage for businesses that have satellite office in different parts of the world.

Web conferencing can offer so much to an organization in terms of communication. Like anything else though, it also has limitations and disadvantages. Everyone knows that the internet does not always provide perfect connections. Another possibility is the incompatibility with old computer systems or hardware and the internet technology.

Another disadvantage is that web conferencing is also vulnerable to malicious attacks. Because it depends greatly on internet connection, it can attract virus and hackers. The worst scenario would probably involve having important information stolen from you as you send them online.

Despite the limitations though, web conferencing is still a valuable tool. This is true regardless of whether you would like to make a web conference call for personal or business reasons. In time, it is possible that its limitations may eventually be overcome by newer and better online technology.
