In a world revolves around cyberspace communications there is bound to be some bad things happen as well as all of the good they do to help people communicate, shop, and work. Those things only scratch the surface to what a computer can do. If your really think about it, almost everything is done by computer these days.
It can be very simple or very complicated. A computer virus can put a computer completely out of service by destroying the hard drive or be a nuisance and cause pop ups or slow moving systems. A virus can even hide information files on the computer so the user cannot find it.
Hackers enjoy uploading viruses to computers. They enjoy having the power to complicate a person’s computer. Some other types of hackers are more vicious and can try to control something of great importance to everyone. For instance, the events recently in South Korea where a virus was uploaded to a mainframe and infected government computers, banking computers and shopping as well. It caused some problems that could have been very serious if there was not someone watching end the virus’ effects.
There was a warning, so the people who protect the computers were looking for certain things to avert a major catastrophe.
For example, South Korea was warned and infected with a virus that attacked the government computers and some private computers. It shut down some commercial sites for awhile. it basically gathered information from many computers and had them all go to a specific address to swamp the server and cause it to not work properly.
Some are so bad that they can delete all of the information on a hard drive. It is really important not to open email attachments from people you don’t know. Sometimes, the more clever hacker will find a way to send emails from people you know, so you will open it.
Banking systems, government systems and transportation systems would be primary targets for cyber-terrorists who want to cripple an economy or cause mass confusion which gives them a chance to move in on a target. The beginning of such chaos could begin with something as simple as a virus.
Most major countries who are very technology savvy are working very hard to stay ahead of the hackers who send viruses through the Internet to any destination. There are cyber-specialist that watch for viral infections on the Internet regularly.
